What is your favorite display / artifact at MAHLS?
My favorite thing on campus is the train station itself. I’m drawn to old structures and I just love the entire place. I feel like the floors and walls have so many stories to tell. Plus it’s such a testament to MAHLS as an organization, how they moved the entire building and restored it is nothing short of amazing.

What do you hope for MAHLS in the future?
I hope to bring younger generations onto the property with new and engaging programs, classes, and activities. I also hope we can make real progress on digitizing and cataloguing the artifacts so we can make it easily accessible to the public.

Anything else you’d like people to know?
I started coming to the campus when my kiddos were pint-sized, just to ride the train and hang out with friends. I understand how important an escape like that is for caregivers and their families. I made and maintain the train table that is now used by so many on a weekly basis. It always makes me smile to see a crowd gathered there and to watch memories being made on our property.

Chris Clutter – Secretary

How long have you been with MAHLS?
Since the 1980’s.

What is your favorite display / artifact at MAHLS?
Chessie the Cat and the story of how it was found. The sign outside stating the Star of Mars. Anything Mars Related. The U.S.S. Mars display just placed in the museum.

What do you hope for MAHLS in the future?
Hope for the future to always have the great bunch of volunteers to keep the grounds, museum, displays and all the campus in great shape as they have been. To keep the Mars history alive, interesting, and fun to learn about.

Anything else?
I enjoy being with and becoming friends to a lot of great people, how active we all are with events and times spent with discussions and food. I enjoyed heading up the annual car cruises that we had for about 13 years with the help of my family members. It was a great fundraiser for the society. Always enjoy coming up with new ideas to continue to help with raising funds.

What is your favorite display / artifact at MAHLS?
Wow, this is not an easy out but I love them all. Each have their own capturing piece of local history that I truly love seeing.

What do you hope for MAHLS in the future?
To continue in its fellowship in preserving local history like no other.

Anything else you’d like people to know?
I have to say, it’s so exciting to run the train during the summer months. All those happy faces and ever increasing interest in the train and the campus is incredible.

What is your favorite display / artifact at MAHLS?
I enjoy all the various exhibits, artifacts, and the train.

What do you hope for MAHLS in the future?
In addition to preserving and displaying Mars history, I would like to see us have interesting things for all ages to enjoy.

Anything else you’d like people to know?
Although born in Mars, growing up in Pine Twp., and now living 20 miles from Mars, I still have many friends there and hope to continue being a part of MAHLS for as long as health permits.

Helping to install and operate the Mars Shortline Railroad, as well as building new exhibits, has been great fun.

I joined MAHLS in 2014 after I retired.

What is your favorite display / artifact at MAHLS?
I think my favorite attraction is the ride-on train because it draws so many folks to our campus who probably wouldn’t come otherwise.

What do you hope for MAHLS in the future?
Since we have such a good thing going, I hope to see volunteers continue to keep our campus attracting people for years to come.

Anything else you’d like people to know?
I enjoy cars, trucks, trains and anything mechanical. Bill Swaney said my first project was to build a tunnel, so with the help of other members, we built it. I’ve enjoyed helping maintain our little railroad, building the pavilion, creating the electric train display in the station and completing the new work room addition.
